There a number of jobseekers and
companies who prefer to get the services of recruitment consultants. For
jobseekers, recruitment consultants provide them the opportunity to a diverse
array of companies that they otherwise would not have access to. Companies
prefer to shorten the recruitment process and broaden their search for
individuals.
But on the other side, there are a
number of individuals and companies who avoid recruitment consultants. Some individuals
prefer to go the hiring managers themselves and some companies want their own
HR team to do the sourcing. Why? There are a number of rumors floating around
that puts recruitment consultants in a bad light.
We’ve listed down some of these misconceptions
and prove to you that these are just that, misconceptions. There is no truth to
them.
5
Common Misconceptions about Recruitment Consultants
1. They’re out there to leech off you. Most
people perceive recruitment consultants are just there to get your money. True,
they do get a certain commission based on the salary of the chosen applicants.
But it is not an absurd amount. The fees vary depending on the level of
position you want them to fill up. If you want someone for an executive
position with that much experience, the fees will be higher. That’s because
they’re harder to source. Recruitment consultants have to use all their
resources to find you not just good applicants but the great ones. The fees
only justify the effort that was placed into their recruitment.
2. They don’t do their jobs well. Contrary
to public belief, recruitment consultants worked hard to provide the companies
the best talents out there. If they’re not in front of a desk doing their job,
it doesn’t mean they don’t work at all. Recruitment consultants are always on
their toes. They have to rush from one meeting to another, pitching their
presentations to clients, arranging the line ups. They’re working even after
office hours.
3. They don’t return your calls. There are
so many applicants being handled by recruitment consultants that they could not
possibly call each one of them. They will contact those who stood out. These
are the people with potential. These are the candidates who have the qualities
that the clients sought after. They are the ones who will be shortlisted. If
they don’t call you, maybe your resume wasn’t impressive enough or your
qualifications do not currently meet the requirements of their clients.
4. They don’t give impartial treatment to the candidates. True. But there’s a good reason for it. Some jobseekers will think
that only those who have good credentials are favored by recruitment
consultants. But the truth is, that is exactly why clients hire the services of
the recruitment consultants, to weed out the list and provide them with only a
handful of candidates that are fit for the job. So ost probably, jobseekers who
have better resumes will be in contact with the recruitment consultants more
frequently than the rest. But another factor is the kind of recruitment consultant
you are working with. You have to check which positions they are looking for.
If they prefer only to book executive positions and you are going for a more
junior position then, change your recruitment consultant to some other that
would suit your current needs.
