Although it is advantageous to do business online but it is at the same time accompanied with a lot of disadvantages. There are quite a few problems that online startups have to face as they go on to pursue their venture. Due to non cash and all credit transaction mode, the risk of fraud and defaulting always exists.
Computer Knowledge Limitation:
While doing online business one just cannot afford to be low on tech. basic computer knowledge is not enough and a person who is mediocre in computer knowledge does not qualify for becoming a good online businessman. But then not all online entrepreneurs have complete knowledge of computer applications. An example of that is the introduction of cloud computing, this is something rather easy to use but still many people fail to grasp it. What happens in this case is that the online entrepreneur has to hire services of a supporting company thus adding to the expenses greatly.
Relation Development Problems:
It is a very common issue with online business startups that they fail to establish relationships with other businesses and individuals due to trust issues. This happens when one is unable to correctly introduce himself to the other party. No one appreciates being wasted time of or being spammed, thus resulting in these problems. Those who had recently switched from face to face relationship development to online find it as a very thick issue.
Security Concerns:
Although all the businesses that operate online have their book of rules when it comes to payments, they try to make things as safe as possible; still there is room for fraud and losses. There are certain things that an online business has to leave on trust because otherwise no one would care to buy from them. Also, there is some personal information like bank accounts or credit card numbers that the online businessman has to share leaving himself at risk of crimes.
Copy Right Problems:
Internet is so vast that it is impossible to govern and control it. Even in the presence of so many regulating bodies, internet stays to be a very vulnerable place for honest businesses. There are so many different horizons in which internet is being operated. There are so many countries that have their own satellites which make it even more difficult to govern it. It is strongly possible for someone to copy a business idea and keep on selling it with a slightly different name without getting caught for violating copy rights. So much so that in a different nook of the world someone may even use the same name and business idea using a proxy server or a web mask making it very difficult and next to impossible to catch them.
Limited Businesses:
Although pretty much every business can become virtual and go online but there is still limit in this regard. There are a few business types that cannot be done online or through a website. An example of this is something that needs to be felt by senses other than sight and hearing. Perfumes and flavors cannot be evidently showcased on the internet since one cannot actually sniff or taste anything to decide whether or not they liked it. Similarly, in case of expensive items like jewelry, one may not find it preferable to buy a diamond ring online and get it delivered on their door step.
