Want to know how to evaluate your
placement consultant?
Recruitment
consultants are an important part of your job search process. However it will
be a waste of time if you work with too many consultants and most of them are
ineffective. Ideally you should only work with one to three executive search
consultants and allow only them to represent you to the prospective employers.
However the big question is - how to choose which recruitment consultant to
work with. In this article we are dwelling on this topic of how to effectively
work with the recruiters and how to choose the best among them.
Does your recruiter has Industry
Focus
Does your executive headhunter know your industry? Do they have expertise in recruiting for your
industry? Usually the recruiters do not say no to any candidate - they have a
habit of collecting the resumes. Whether they need it or not - they would
always like to be flooded with resumes of candidates. However such recruiters
are ineffective. The recruiters who are focused are the one who are more
successful. And more successful recruiters get more clients to represent.
Does your recruiter has Level focus
Does your
executive search consultant knows your position and has handled such positions
in past? If you are at a senior management level - the recruiter who can handle
such position will be different from a middle management recruiter "The
business of recruitment from middle management to senior management is very
different and requires different skill sets." Looking for a recruiter who
recruits at your level will help.
Does your search consultant has
Network
Is your
recruiter in a good network? Recruiters do share their candidates and positions
across industry. Those who are well connected - will be able to give you better
opportunities. Look for the recruiters who are members of associations like
Executive Recruiters Association (ERA) or are part of any informal or formal
recruiter's guild network.
Does your headhunter has Focus
towards you
Your
recruiter is willing to go an extra step to promote your profile? Is he giving
you valuable suggestions to make things better for your job search? Recruiters
usually work for companies - as it is the companies who pay them. However their
attitude towards you will be in important factor in choosing the recruiter.
Make sure they give you best advise and promote your profile by taking some extra
steps.
If you chose
a headhunter carefully, then the right recruiter can add much value to your
career move. Giving your CV to any and every recruiter will be a waste of time.
Make sure you chose two to five best recruitment consultants for your career
search.
